Beijing's Tsinghua University was displayed among the "world's most beautiful campuses" in a photo article by forbes.com, the American financial magazine, on March 1.

Forbes invited architects and campus designers to evaluate and nominate campuses for the list, ultimately choosing 10 from America, three from Europe and Tsinghua University, the only university from Asia.

"A clear diagram of organization and the consistence of the architectural style are the key to make the campus beautiful," according to the article.

The architects took the natural environment in account in determining the university's overall appeal, which Tsinghua University can be regarded as richly endowed by nature.

Founded in 1925, Tsinghua University is located on a site of a Qing Dynasty imperial garden.

Featuring lotus ponds surrounded by examples of traditional Chinese architecture, the campus also organically mixes many Western styles like the university's auditorium.

"I am so happy to hear the news. I have been studying at Tsinghua for almost eight years. No matter how anyone else sees it, it's definitely the most beautiful campus to me," Said Hu Hao, an instrumental science majored doctoral candidate at Tsinghua University.

Some of other leading campuses mentioned included, Kenyon College (US), Oxford University, Stanford University (US) and the University of Bologna (Italy).
