A 41-year-old man was arrested Monday after holding 65 students hostage with a knife and axe in a primary school in Xincai county, Henan Province. None of the pupils were injured.

The man surnamed Yuan pretended to be a repairman and rushed into a room full of children waiting for class to begin at Yuanyingcun School on Monday morning and nailed the door from inside the classroom. Then he took out a knife and held 65 students hostage, many of whom burst into tears.

Yuan demanded that a teacher call the headmaster and explained that he had a dispute with his neighbor. He threatened to hurt the students if the village leader failed to mediate the dispute in a just way and to resolve the situation as soon as possible.

The local police arrived immediately. After two hours of negotiations, the policemen broke into the classroom and arrested Yuan. While two policemen's hands were injured during the altercation, no pupils were injured.
