A Lancashire girl has found a miniature Koran in a box of seedless grapes she bought from Sainsbury's.

Amy Bickerstaff of Roach Road, Samlesbury discovered the leather-cased 12cm by 8cm Islamic holy book underneath the fruit that had been imported from Egypt.

The 15-year-old told the Lancashire Telegraph: "It's the last thing I expected to find.

"I'll have to do some homework to learn the language if I decide to read it. I can't understand a word of it because it's all in Arabic."

Vice-chair of the Lancashire Council of Mosques Salim Mulla said: "They are considered pocket Korans. I have never heard of anything like this but it does not surprise me.

"It must have belonged to someone who packed the grapes and it must have accidentally got into the bag."
