At 7 am on January 5, the Shanghai Railway Station started using new automatic ticket vending machines. This is the first centralized automatic ticket-selling location in the national railway system.
It is learned that there were all together nine automatic ticket vending machines put into trial use that day, selling train tickets for some of the CRH (China Railway High-speed) trains departing from the Shanghai Railway Station and the Shanghai South Railway Station.
These automatic ticket vending machines work in a similar fashion as the automatic ticket vending machines in the subway. Passengers first choose the railway line, and then pay for the ticket. The self-service operation is simple and convenient. Currently it only accepts cash payments, but will accept bank cards in the future.
