Jiuzhaigou National Park, Sichuan Province

Jiuzhaigou National Park (simplified Chinese: 九寨沟; pinyin: Jiǔzhàigōu; literally "Valley of Nine Villages";) is a nature reserve in the north of Sichuan Province. It is known for its many multi-level waterfalls and colorful lakes, and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992.

Jiuzhaigou's best-known feature is its dozens of blue, green and turquoise-colored lakes. The local Tibetan people call them "Haizi" in Chinese, meaning "son of the sea". In the early spring when the snow is not melted away, the "Haizi" are covered with ice cakes and ice flowers in different shapes and thickness. In the sunlight, they reflect various colors such as blue, green and greenish blue.
