A group of Chinese artists concluded their three-day visit of Istanbul, Turkey on Tuesday, the first stop of a cultural exchange tour along the ancient Silk Road.

During their stay in Istanbul, the group visited famous attractions, including the Mosque of Sultan Ahmet, the Church of Hagia Sophia, the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art, the Strait of Bosporus and the Eurasian Land Bridge.

The Chinese artists also communicated with their local counterparts and created a series of artistic works based on local historical sites, such as the Golden Horn, the terminus of the ancient Silk Road.

The artists believed they have harvested a rich essence of modern art through creative works inspired by the trip. Their works will soon be available to a Chinese audience.

During their visit, the group received warm welcome from Chinese Consulate General in Istanbul. They were invited to hold an exhibition there to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Turkish diplomatic ties, and also to celebrate the "Year of China" in Turkey in 2012.

The cultural exchange activity, named "the Silk Road in Colors," was co-organized by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the People's Government of Shaanxi Province, and the Chinese Artists Association. It's an event included in the plan for the multinational application for the Silk Road to be listed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.

Ten top Chinese artists left from Beijing on January 8. The 20-day tour began in Turkey, and will also take them to Greece, Italy and France.
