Embrodiery in Guizhou. After exploring 15 kinds of handicrafts in six provinces and autonomous regions in 2010, more than 10 top designers in various fields exhibit the harvest of their journey with an exhibition entitled Show the World: Exhibition on Handicrafts & Design this month in Beijing.

Initiated by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP China) and its goodwill ambassador Dadawa, the famous Chinese singer, the journey and exhibition are part of Show the World's culture-based development goodwill actions for ethnic minorities in China.

From July to September in 2010, Dadawa invited renowned designers to visit ethnic minorities in six provinces and autonomous regions separately, including Yunnan, Guizhou, Tibet, Qinghai, Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia. Those who took part in the journey not only collected pleasurable traveling experiences but also inspiration for their creativity, as well possible ways for preservation and development of ethnic handicrafts.

"The activity aims to support and protect handicraft tradition and original handicrafts resources in a practical way," said Dadawa Thursday in a forum about the preservation and development of ethnic handicrafts.

Known for her vocalization of beautiful melody lines, Dadawa won success with her debut album, Sister Drum (1995), with distinctive Tibetan elements. She was named a Goodwill Ambassador by UNDP in 2009. Since then, Dadawa has launched the goodwill action of Show the World with ethnical music journey as the first component, and the handicrafts journey as a second part.
