Allianoi is an ancient spa settlement located near the city of Bergama (ancient Pergamon) in Turkey, the remains of which dated predominantly back to the Roman Empire period around the second century A.D.
The site is 18 kilometers to the northeast of Bergama. Allianoi is right inside the area of a projected reservoir of the Yortanli Dam. In preparation for the construction of the dam, Allianoi is to be completely covered with sand.
The ancient spa is to remain below the waters of the dam's reservoir despite the historical findings of the past years. Turkey government's decision to bury the ancient town has been opposed by various sections of society, including archeologists.
