A ceremony for the coming sale of the Expo-themed gold rice bowl was held in Shanghai on the morning of Sept. 1, 2010.

The golden bowl is an Expo-licensed product made with the authorization of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination.

The gold rice bowl has been a symbol of wealth and good luck in China since ancient times, and this time the gold rice bowls are used not only at expo souvenirs but also to express people's desire for a better life.

The Expo-themed rice bowls are made from .999 percent pure gold and adopt traditional techniques for making gold products. The production procedure includes forging, metal forming, stretching, carving and polishing. The rim and bottom of the bowl are engraved with the traditional fret patterns, and the outside surface is engraved with the expo theme "Better City, Better Life" in Chinese and English and other Expo-related designs.

Exquisite craftsmanship in every stage of production has made the bowls washable, while at the same time they will never degenerate. Thanks to its important theme, authoritative producer, uniqueness, precious raw materials, complicated techniques, profound implied meaning, definite increase in value and convenience of turning into cash, the bowls not only have great value for collection, but also are perfect gifts to express good wishes for friends and relatives.

The bowls were produced in very small numbers, with five different weights available: 60 grams, 100 grams, 200 grams, 300 grams and 500 grams. The buyer of each bowl will get an alloy model of the China Pavilion for free. The gold rice bowls will go on sale on the eve of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
