Bidders were more enthusiastic about the props than expected, said Huang Jian, deputy director of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, who was present at the auction.

The first item was a motorboat that played a leading role in the square matrix show at the opening ceremony, and its starting price was 80,000 yuan. Su Shouliang, owner of three Pleasure-in-Farmhouse businesses in his 40s, spent 360,000 yuan on the motorboat and 280,500 yuan on another non-powered boat decorated with flags, which was valued at 8,000 yuan.
