"Driverless" actress Wang Luodan says she got her role in the film thanks to an eavesdropping experience.

The Chinese urban drama directed by Zhang Yang will hit local cinemas on July 2. It is about three love stories that are intertwisted by a car accident.

"I passed by director Zhang at a karaoke bar, where he was talking to someone on the cellphone about this film. I'd always wanted to work with him. So when I got back, I asked my assistant to contact him," Wang said Saturday while promoting the film at the Shanghai International Film Festival.

In the film, Wang plays a deaf-mute girl who is crazily in love with an amateur car racer.

Zhang said he decided to cast Wang for the role when he saw her for the first time. "She has the quality."

"Driverless" also stars Liu Ye, Chen Jianbin, Gao Yuanyuan, Ruby Lin, Li Xiaoran and Huang Xuan.

It is Zhang's first film since his 2007 comedy "Getting Home", which was nominated for Best Asian Film at the 2008 Hong Kong Film Awards.
