A record temperature of 31 degrees centigrade has been forecast here for Russia's Day on Saturday.
Moscow weather bureau chief Aleksey Lyachov said Friday the previous record for the national day was recorded in 1998 with temperatures hitting 30.8 degrees.
“So far, it all depends on the nebulosity and if there are not so many clouds, the temperature could possibly rise up to 31 degrees," said Lyachov as cited by the RIA Novosti news agency.
Other meteorologists said heavy rains were also expected in Moscow for the holiday.
Temperatures in recent days in the Russian capital were rather cold, after a May that was the hottest on record.
