China's college grads exceed 70 million

The number of people in China with at least a bachelor's degree surpassed 70 million, the second highest in the world, according to a report released by the Ministry of Education on May 27.

The report, which examined China's education system from 2003 to 2009, found that the number of undergraduate students per 10,000 people increased from 72 in 2000 to 213 in 2009.

According to the report, the average education level expressed in years for Chinese people aged 15 years and older surpassed 8.7 years, which is one year longer than the world average. In addition, the average education level of the incoming labor force reached up to 11 years.
