610,000 people applied to be Shanghai World Expo volunteers

612,251 people applied to be volunteers and 561,549 have been successfully registered, including 3,001 foreigners. The youngest is 16 years old and the oldest is 99 years old, according to reports.

The Shanghai 2010 World Expo's volunteer recruitment has been completed. Meaning the first phase of volunteer selecting has come to an end.

According to statistics, most applicants come from the Yangtze River Delta Region, with Shanghai, Jiangsu province and Zhejiang province ranking first, second and third respectively.

The number of the applicants whose permanent residences are in Shanghai reached 424,140, accounting for 76.12 percent. Of the applicants, over 90 percent are young people, and 68.1 percent are students.

In terms of educational background, the number of bachelors and undergraduate students is 342,422, accounting for 68.1 percent. Most applicants have mastered certain knowledge and skills in psychology, sign language or first aid, and the wide range of applicants can meet the language needs for visitors from 20 countries, including English, French, German, Japanese and Korean.
