The U.S. blockbuster film Avatar recently "swept away" movie markets in China's major cities, becoming as popular as or even more popular than the film Titanic certain years ago.

However, scrupulous Chinese audiences found unexpectedly, that there is a Chinese dragon in yellow under the window of the gunship of the "invader" colonel Miles Quaritch, who slaughtered Na'avi people and ruined their homes in the film. This cause numerous netizens to question, and many of them believe that its director James Cameron deliberately smeared China's image and hope that it can be erased so as not to lead to misguidance.

A netizen explained what kind of the dragon on the gunship belongs to, a western or Chinese dragon. He pointed out that the biggest difference between a Chinese and western dragon is whether it has wings or not. Western dragons have wings while Chinese dragons only have snake-shaped bodies. The shape of the painted dragon in Avatar looks like a snake, and additionally, the dragon has no wings. So it must be a Chinese dragon. That Chinese dragon appears on the invader's gunship caused doubts among many netizens.

"Chinese dragon is the totem of the Chinese people. It represents the Chinese people in every sense." Many netizens believe that it is an insult to the Chinese people that Cameron drew the Chinese dragon image on the invaders' gunship, and it implies the "China threat theory."

A netizen named "xingqi1iu" said more angrily that the Chinese dragon image on the gunship is a bold insult from western people to the Chinese audience, and it aims to maliciously smear China's image.

"Avatar has 4 editions. Originally, I planned to watch all 4, the normal edition, 2D edition, 3D edition and IMAX-3D edition. But when I saw the dragon in the movie, I felt quite uncomfortable. So, I will not watch it again," a netizen from Yiwu, Zhejiang province frankly said.
