Renowned Italian filmmaker Giuseppe Tornatore

Renowned Italian filmmaker Giuseppe Tornatore will bring his new film "Baaria" to China with lead actors Francesco Scianna and Margareth Made.

Giuseppe Tornatore, director of Oscar-winning "Cinema Paradiso", is to participate the upcoming screening of Italian movies from December 9-12 in Beijing Film Academy and Broadway Cinematheque MOMA.

Screenings in Broadway Cinematheque MOMA during the event will open for free to audiences.

The director will be present for the 7 pm screening of "Baaria" in MOMA on December 10 and will discuss filmmaking with Chinese film students and movie fans.

"Baaria", lauded as another tribute film to the director's Sicilian hometown of Baaria, following classic works "Cinema Paradiso" and "Malena" is an epic tale spanning the life of three generations in the Sicilian village that charts the rise of fascism, the onset of war and mafia meddling amid the political turmoil of the time.

It was the opening film of the 66th Venice International Film Festival in September and will represent Italy in its bid for the foreign-language Oscar.

The other two Italian films to be screened during the period are Francesca Comencini's "LO SPAZIO BIANCO" and LA DOPPIA ORA by Giuseppe Capotondi.

This is a joint event launched by Embassy of Italy in China, Venice International Film Festival, Beijing Film Academy, China Film Archive and Broadway Cinematheque MOMA.
