After two years of renovation, Beijing's Summer Palace Foreign Affairs Hall recently opened to visitors free of charge.

Located in the southeast corner of the Summer Palace east gate square, the Foreign Affairs Hall has two courtyards featuring an ancient architectural style. The larger one was built in 1908 and is a reminder of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

As part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Qing Dynasty, the Foreign Affairs Hall received many foreign envoys.

After the Qing Dynasty fell, the hall became a primary school after 1949. In 2004, the Summer Palace Foreign Affairs Hall was placed under the management of Summer Palace with the Beijing Municipal government’s strong support.

Now it also serves as a tourist service center for those who visit the other places in Summer Palace.

Agencies and Li Ming contributed to this story.
