On July 24, "McDull Kungfu Ding Dong Ding," the fourth Mcdull cartoon produced in Hong Kong, started showing in theaters.
"Mcdull," has won the top international award for cartoons and has many fans. It has been called the "first Chinese-language cartoon brand." Once the movie began, little pig Mcdull immediately won the hearts of audiences with his persistent good-temper and mo lei tau humor.
During its opening weekend, it raked in over 25 million yuan at the box office and had an audience of over 800,000 people, ranking first among Chinese-made movies.
"Mcdull" has become the first "dark horse" of the summer. Box office takings for its first weekend were 42 percent higher than the popular "Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf" cartoon at the beginning of 2009 which had box office takings of 17.5 million yuan during its first weekend.
On the afternoon of July 23, the Hong Kong gangster movie "Overheard" began showing. "Overheard" is an authentic Hong Kong movie about the investigation of a financial crime. It has a powerful cast consisting of three superstars, Sean Andy, Louis Koo and Daniel Wu who play three members of a surveillance team.
The movie's focus on financial crime is very real in today's society. Besides the impact of the current global financial crisis, the movie's strong realism and sense of the times strengthen its charm and selling points, making it very attractive to audiences.
Although only half a day, total box office takings for its opening day in China were 2.5 million yuan.
During its first weekend, total box office takings surged to 24 million yuan and it had an audience of 820,000 people.
