A European health agency said on Sunday that 26 new A/H1N1 flu cases were reported in European countries within the last 24 hours.
Of the new cases, 11 were confirmed in Britain, 7 in Spain, 5 in Italy and one each in Norway, Poland and Switzerland, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) said in its daily situation report.
The total number of confirmed cases of the A/H1N1 flu virus in the EU (European Union) and EFTA (European Free Trade Association) countries rose to 349, with 133 cases respectively in Spain and Britain, 19 in Italy, 17 in Germany and 16 in France, the ECDC said.
All seven news cases in Spain are students of a military academy. Altogether 18 cases were confirmed in the military academy. The latest information from the Spanish Ministry of Health refers to 81 militaries currently being under investigation. the ECDC added.
The ECDC publishes a daily situation report about A/H1N1 flu cases in the EU and EFTA countries based on official information from these countries.
