"I feel very happy and excited," said Ma Xiao on Sunday after he dashed over the finishing line of the 100-meter race, clocking a time of 12'35 seconds.

Ma, a Grade-Two student of the Yong Sheng Junior Middle School in Jiang You city in southwest China's Sichuan province hit hard by the May 12 devastating earthquake, was participating in a special sports meeting between Russian students and their Chinese counterparts from the quake-hit areas.

He is one of the 184 students from the quake-hit province recuperating at a summer camp in the southwest Russian coastal city of Tuapse.

With both Russian and Chinese national flags flying on the All-Russian Children's Care Center, the friendly sports meeting brought together over 2,000 Chinese and Russian students.

In the opening ceremony, five Chinese students played as Beijing Olympics mascot dolls known as "Fuwa", which were warmly welcomed by both Chinese and Russian students.

The friendly sports meeting took place at a time when the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games torch relay started in Sichuan and exactly 2014 days prior to the start of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games, said Yuri Borodachyov, vice-chairman of the All-Russian Children's Care Center.

It is of vital significance, Borodachyov stressed, expressing his hope that all the students will promote the Olympic spirit to win the games.

The sports meeting has many competition events such as dash race, table tennis, the long jump, basketball and the tug-of-war. Though Chinese students who participated in the game is small in number, they have obtained good results in table tennis, 100-meter race as well as 4*100 meter relay.

Chinese ambassador to Russia Liu Guchang said in the closing ceremony, "I wish you all (both Chinese and Russian children) will run faster, and will participate in the Olympic Games in the future to win gold medals."

The Chinese students also sang a popular song of the Beijing Olympic Games -- You Are Welcome to Beijing.

Gao Shangyuan, one of the precentors, said "our Russian friends are warmhearted, I will miss them... and I hope they will have the chance to watch the Olympic Games in Beijing."

Gao, a Grade-Three student of the Ju Yuan Middle school in the city of Dujiangyan, was rescued from the rubble after the magnitude-8 earthquake.

All the 184 Chinese students recuperating at the Russian children center will go back to China on Monday.
