Cuba is the only country in Latin America and the Caribbean that will comply with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of Education for Everybody, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) stated in its Annual report.
This accomplishment is due to the Cuban government's priority to grant free and quality education for everyone at all levels and specialties, local daily Granma reported on Friday.
The educational component of MDGs mainly includes accomplishing universal grade school, adult literacy, education quality and gender equality in grade school, junior high school and literacy education.
On the Development Index of Education For Everyone, Cuba ranks first in the region, followed by Argentina, Chile and Mexico.
Some countries in the region are not mentioned in the report for lack of comparable data. The UNESCO report noted that Latin America and the Caribbean on the whole will not be able to comply with the objectives of universal education.
