Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has been requested to stay longer in the hospital until at least Thursday, Kyodo News reported later Monday, quoting the premier's aids.
The doctor asked Abe to remain hospitalized for the whole week since there was no improvement in his health condition, the aids said.
Abe was admitted into a Tokyo hospital last Thursday for functional gastrointestinal disorder, one day after his abrupt announcement of intention to step down.
The doctors initially said that the premier needed to be hospitalized for at least 3 to 4 days.
Abe's doctor said at a press conference later Thursday that Abe had been suffering from stomach irritations, pain, poor appetite and other duodenum-centered symptoms, for all of which fatigue and stress should be blamed.
