"Qiu Chengtong Middle School Mathematics Prize," named after the famous Chinese mathematician and for Chinese middle school students world-wide, was formally launched on March 26 in Beijing.

"Qiu Chengtong Middle School Mathematics Award" will be modeled after the organization and selection of the US's "Westinghouse Science and Technology Award." As a science and technology award for the youth, with an emphasis on innovation and team work, it strives to earn a good international reputation and have a positive impact on society.

According to reports, teams competing for the "Qiu Chengtong Middle School Mathematics Award" will consist of 1-3 students and an instructor; and each independently chooses a research topic in the fields of either basic mathematics or applied mathematics. The selection committee is chaired by Qiu Chengtong, and includes mathematics experts and professors from famous universities around the world.

The award will be offered annually in future; and the first "Qiu Chengtong Middle School Mathematics Award" will be announced in Beijing during a presentation ceremony in October 2008.

As a partner, Taikang Life Insurance Co., Ltd will provide financial security for the award.
