The Dawning 5000A supercomputer will arrive in Shanghai on May 15, according to the Dawning Information Industry Company.
Dawning 5000A officially came off the production line at the Dawning Information Industry Company's Tianjin industrial base in September 2008, marking that China has become the second country in the world, after the US, to be capable of independently designing and manufacturing high-performance computers with a computing speed of 100 trillion times per second. It ranked among the world's top 10 supercomputers in the same year.
Dawning 5000A is part of the Dawning 5000 series. It has a double-precision floating-point operation capacity of 230 trillion times per second, and a double-precision floating-point operation capacity of 180.6 trillion calculations per second for the Linpack Benchmark. It is currently the fastest high-performance computer for commercial use in China. In addition to its particularly powerful calculation capability, it has other features such as extremely high density, extremely high cost-performance ratio, very low power consumption and an extremely wide application. Furthermore, it is also independently developed by China. It also exhibits substantial improvement in terms of size, energy saving, efficiency of software and manageability. Its performance will be 20 times that of Dawning 4000A as well as being two-thirds the size, and only consumes 50 percent more electricity.
Information shows that Dawning 5000A has recently passed the assessment made by the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
