Greeting historical opportunity for Sino-US ties with confidence (2)

Peace, development and cooperation are nevertheless irresistible, the "footsteps" leading to the world forward have accelerated unceasingly, and Sino-US relations are currently facing a new historical opportunity. So, we should seize the new momentum in Sino-US relations, clearly see the long-term significance of bilateral relations, and come to recognize that the space of mutual-benefit and a win-win outcome can certainly be further extended.

High-level meetings between China and the United States have been frequent, bilateral cooperation has enhanced in the sphere of global issues, and there are hundreds of dialogues between ministers or secretaries and other senior officials on an annual basis, and more than 60 cooperation mechanisms between government institutions of the two nations have been set up and are fruitful..

China and the United States are each other's second biggest trade partners and, in the three decades from 1979 to 2009, bilateral trade volume had risen to 298.26 billion US dollars from merely 2.45 billion dollars, with a 120-fold increase and, on the other hand, China has become the U.S.' fastest growing export market.

Moreover, China and the United States have made substantial achievements in the realm of cultural and education exchanges. And the United States has pledged to send more than 100,000 students to China over the next four years.

Therefore, cooperation is still the mainstream of Sino-US relations, and bilateral cooperation has laid the very foundation stone for the comprehensive Sino-US cooperation in the 21st century, created historical opportunities and upgraded bilateral relations to a new height.

A broader perspective for the era and a strategic foresight are needed in our bid to develop Sino-US relations, and it is a historical demand and the requirement of the age to develop friendly relations between the two countries and carry out their partnership.
