Three days have passed since the 2009 New Year set in.

Overlooking from the outer space of the solar system, quite a few "bright spots" have been added to the surface of the earth, the "blue planet". "Music spectacular water cube", a large-scale symphonic concert was held in varied colorful splendor in Beijing; London Eye and Thames River Sightseeing Cruise in London, England "shed its rays in all directions" and was indeed splendid; the gorgeous sight of Sydney fireworks were eye-catching and unprecedented...

Moreover, lovely, exquisite melody in Vienna's golden hall, or the musikeverein, the "Holy of the Holies" for music, opened the "gate of the new year" for more than 2,000 audience members coming from all over the world and million upon million of radio listeners or television viewers across the globe; and major department stores in Tokyo, Japan kicked off their business for 2009 with so many people lining up in front of them...

Financial crisis cannot halt people from hailing 2009 enthusiastically. Populace the world over all expressed their longing for the future in their own ways, and world leaders looked ahead and offered their blessings for this year with their New Year messages. People, nevertheless, did not forget that they would face grim situation and difficulties in the year ahead. The financial crisis has resulted in a marked slowdown in global economy, and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict again aggravated hot spot issues. The crises have not yet bottomed out and the world today is still not so peaceful.

In face of fast spreading and infiltrating financial crisis, global forces to cope with the crisis have amassed their strength with rare, unprecedented efficient ways and means. Leading economies worldwide have come out with their plans for bailout endeavors and to revitalize the economy in the past year and got off a good start of the global economic defense battle.

Faced with undulating regional "hot spot" issues, the humanity has increasingly raised its sense of responsibility or mission to jointly safeguard world peace. Big powers have demonstrated to the world an unprecedented capability of coordination among them with their gestures of heightened responsibility; the United Nations and other world bodies have declared their authority to the world with more active moves; and a large number of developing countries have partaken in global affairs and play a more constructive role with a step-up confidence.

To date, peace and development remain the main current of the world progress. To strengthen international cooperation and jointly cope with challenges is a common aspiration of the people of all countries, and is also the only way for maintaining the stability of international situation and the development of every country.

In the course of dealing with crisis and turmoil, a new mechanism of enhancing coordination and joint sharing is taking shape worldwide, and people in different countries and regions are making new adjustments through their profound mulling or introspection. Under the impact of global financial crisis, Americans, who used to "spend borrowed money", have now begun learning to consume rationally, notes an economist, whereas the Chinese who have had a tradition of thrift, learned to spend more in order to held promote "domestic consumption". More importantly, the humanity has activated varied virtues and turns them into the useful, spiritual forces to help settle the dilemma.

Due to an impact of global financial crisis, China also came across the challenge of an economic slowdown in the past year. At the critical juncture, it took an active part in the effort of international community to respond to the financial crisis and exert itself to spurring global economic growth and progress in human civilization; it enhances cooperation with various countries on a range of world issues and continues to contribute in safeguarding the interests of developing countries and promoting the global stability and prosperity.

While observing the New Year's Days, people can feel the hope rising in the minds of people as suggested by kaleidoscopic fireworks around the globe, whose splendor was no inferior to that of any firework show in previous years; and people can feel plucked-up confidence from optimistic yet pragmatic speeches of leaders of various countries. Confidence itself is power. Just like a drastic rise in stocks markets around the globe in the first session of the New Year on Friday, January 2, the discreet, optimism and expectations shown by both people and their leaders also pose a flying new start of the new year, which is obviously of more far-reaching significance for the incoming year.
