While on its global tour, the Beijing Olympic flame has been receiving warm greetings as well as disruption and even harassment. On April 10, the European Parliament (EP) passed a Resolution on Tibetan issues sponsored by a few anti-China MPs, such as Edward Mcmillan-Scott, Vice-President of EP, threatening to stay away from the Beijing Olympic opening ceremony – meanwhile not voicing a single word condeming blatant assaults on the Olympic torch relay – in a bid to force China to open a dialogue with the Dalai clique. This is not only twisted logic, but also blasphemy against the Olympic spirit. Any attempt to politicize the Games runs counter to the Olympic charters of peace, friendship and respect.

Some biased Western politicians, organizations, and media entities went out of their way to denigrate and demonize the Olympic torch relay; while encouraging and harboring separatist forces engaged in splitting China apart. They should have expected their devious acts would embolden the Tibetan separatists; and ignite the patriotic passion or fiery rage of numerous citizens of Chinese origin, Chinese expatriates and students in their countries.

The March 14 Lhasa riot, causing the bloodshed of innocent civilians, was masterminded, premeditated and incited by the Dalai clique in collusion with Tibetan independence forces abroad attempting to impose pressure on the Chinese government; sabotage the Beijing Olympic Games; and topple China's stability and harmony. Their despicable attempts to disturb the "holy flame" and the grave crimes they committed in Lhasa have completely betrayed the "nonviolence" and "peace" they often preach – they are clearly lies.

People can not help but wonder why some Western media would deceive the public with false evidence using fake photographs and video footage to slander an ancient civilization – is that what they call civilized behavior? One may also wonder why the EP – always regarded as a defender of human rights and freedom – was selectively blind to the brutality of the Dalai clique and made unfair comments. Why did they turn a deaf ear to the popular will within and outside of China?

It is with the sense of human dignity that gave emerged a principle in China's domestic and foreign affairs: protecting the sovereignty and integrity of the country at all costs. No political party or politician, be it the one with unrivaled clout in the country or even in the world, can decide against the popular will of this multi-ethnic nation. That is why whenever some separatists, their supporters and behind-the-scenes masterminds target the sacred Olympic flame, most local citizens of Chinese origin, Chinese expatriates and students see their true purpose immediately.

Nevertheless, there are still many Western politicians with high integrity showing their discontent to the mistaken decision made by the EP and the biased reports by some western media. Former Romanian Foreign Minister Andrei Plesu cited the decision as "hypocritical, near-sighted and irresponsible;" and in the mean time, former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt stated that non-interference into a sovereign country's internal affairs is a code defined by international law and should apply to any government.

It is expected that some European MPs and Western media will continue yelling or even twisting the facts before the Games. But they should bear in mind that no plot to overturn the Beijing Olympics deserves the moral ground it claims. Moreover, it is an internationally acknowledged fact that Tibet is an inalienable part of China's territory. Any attempt to politicize the Olympics and encroach upon China's sovereignty and integrity is doomed to fail: it is both a provocation against the charters of the Olympic Games and a challenge to all people who love peace and the Olympic spirit.
