16:19, August 07, 2008

British rowers told reporters here Thursday that they were in good shape and ready for the Beijing Olympic Games.

At a press briefing in the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park, British Team Leader David Tanner said: "We have the tradition of producing gold medals in rowing. That's why we are here."

"We are in pretty good shape now. We are just pretty well," he said.

Anna Bebington is to compete in women's double. This is her first Olympics. "I think it's just amazing. I am pretty happy with the venue," she said.

She also said that she learnt a lot from on how to work with different players and coaches because they had different styles.

James Lindsy-Fynn said that the Shunyi venue is the best lake he has ever seen. "This is the best lake I have ever rowed on," he said.

However, he said that the last season is a "mixed season" and made some mistakes. But he said that he is now in good shape and ready for the Olympic contest.

"The Olympics are different from the world championships. You are able to reach your soul a bit and pull something extra out. I am here to empty my tank," Alan Campbell commented on the importance of the Olympics.

The British team will compete in 12 of the 14 rowing events and they got one gold medal at the Athens Olympics in 2004.
