Bundesliga reigning champions Dortmund will start to defend their league title without Paraguay striker Lucas Barrios who sustained injury during the Copa America final, the German club said on Tuesday.

Barrios, who scored 16 goals for Dortmund last season, strained a thigh muscle in Paraguay's 0-3 loss to Uruguay in Sunday's final of 2011 Copa America in Argentina.

According to Markus Braun, team doctor of Dortmund, the 26-year-old striker who joined the club in 2009 will need two to three weeks to fully recover from the injury, which means Barrios will miss Dortmund's season opener against Hamburg next Friday.
