After a lengthy negotiation involving Argentina's Boca Juniors and Chile's Universidad Catolica, Sao Paulo closed a three-year loan with the Chilean midfielder Canete.

The 21-year-old was sought out by multiple teams, including clubs from Europe. However, Sao Paulo's insistence and monetary contribution aided in the team's grand acquisition. Canete is seen as the successor to Argentina's legendary midfielder Roman Riquelme.

Sao Paulo is hopeful that Canete will help to fill the void that the team has suffered over the past two seasons, improving its weak midfield. With the recent return of midfielder Danilo, the club is optimistic the two athletes will greatly improve both the offense and defense.

Canete is expected to arrive in Brazil late on Wednesday night to finalize his contractual loan and meet the coaching staff before entering his first team work out on Thursday.
