New Real Madrid signing Hamit Altintop said Monday that he was looking forward to showing the fans in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium that he is much more than a utility player who will be a useful addition to the substitutes' bench.

The 28-year-old has joined Madrid from German side Bayern Munich, he is able to play in several different positions, but was not first choice for Bayern in much of the season that has finished.

Although he has played 55 times for Turkey, Altintop made just 63 first team league appearances for Bayern in four seasons with the club.

That has led to comments that he has been signed by Madrid, not as a first choice player for their starting 11, but as someone who can provide cover in a variety of roles, although the Turkish international begs to differ.

"I don't want to appear arrogant, but I consider myself to be a player that people would want to sign, especially because of my knowledge of the sport and the way I position myself on the pitch," said Altintop in Diario AS.

"I think it's normal that several clubs wanted to sign me and Madrid is the icing on the cake," he added.

"I consider myself to be a very professional player and I can adapt to any system and to any situation. I never complain about the way any team plays. I am very excited about the chance of playing for Real Madrid," he said, commenting that he had discussed the move with Madrid coach Jose Mourinho.

"Of course I have spoken to him several times, he was a major factor in my decision to come to Real Madrid. I will show the fans what I am able to do next season and they will not be disappointed in me," said Altintop.
