At home against powerhouse Sao Paulo, Avai came from behind to win 3-1 on Thursday, advancing to the semifinals of the 2011 Brazilian Cup 3-2 on aggregate.

Sao Paulo scored the game's first goal in the 15th minute. On a free kick, Dagoberto found Casemiro to head the ball into the back of the Avai net.

Avai quickly responded, tying the match in the 16th minute. Off an Estrada crossed ball, William headed the pass past keeper Rogerio Ceni. The home team then took the lead in the 30th minute when Marquinho's corner kick was fired into the Sao Paulo goal by Bruno.

Returning to the second half, Avai increased its lead when Marquinhos Gabriel nailed a redirected pass from Estrada in only the 1st minute of the second half.

Avai will face Vasco da Gama in the semifinals of the Brazilian Cup. The first match will be held at Vasco da Gama on May 18. The winner of the tournament earns a spot in the 2012 Libertadores Cup.
