At home and under the supervision of Pele, Santos beat Mexico's America in the first leg of the round of 16 series in the 2011 Libertadores Cup on Wednesday.

The game's only goal came in the 38th minute. Dribbling down the left side, Neymar attracted three defenders and rolled the ball off to a wide-open Paulo Henrique Ganso who fired a bullet past the America keeper Ochoa, giving his team what would be the game-winning goal.

The second leg of the series will be held on May 3.

The winner of the series between America and Santos will face the winner between Brazil's Cruzeiro and Colombia's Once Caldas in the quarterfinals. Cruzeiro won the first leg on the road 2-1 on Wednesday.
