Manchester United staged a faultless performance against German competitor Schalke to gain a 2-0 victory thanks to Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney at Champions League first leg semi-finals on Tuesday.

Manchester United staged from the beginning no doubt of their Champions League final ambitions as Schalke had in no time the chance to threat Manchester United's well positioned defense.

Only Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer denied United the score within the break with his terrific saves.

After the break, Manchester sealed the deal within two minutes as Giggs opened the scoring at the 67th minute. Two minutes later Rooney slotted the winner to kill the game against over challenged Schalke.

"We had 15 good minutes but as the match progressed we were only able to concentrated on the defense. We had luck and a brilliant goalkeeper that kept us from a higher defeat," coach Ralf Rangnick said after the defeat.
