On the road against Goias in the first leg of the round of 16 in the Brazilian Cup, Sao Paulo won 1-0 on Wednesday.

Sao Paulo scored the game's only goal in the 2nd minute of the second half. Receiving a pass from Carlinhos Paraiba, Dagoberto advanced towards the goal. The striker then rolled the ball off to Marcao who slammed a shot that sailed into the right side of goal and past Goias' keeper Harlei.

The result gives Sao Paulo the advantage in the second and final leg against Goias on April 27. A scoreless draw or 1-0 win will qualify Sao Paulo into the quarterfinals of the tournament. However, a 1-0 loss will result in a decision by penalty kicks. A 2-0 loss or more will result in Sao Paulo's elimination.

Before returning to the Brazilian Cup, Sao Paulo will face Portuguesa in a single round elimination match in the quarterfinals of the Sao Paulo state championship on April 24.
