Bayern, Cottbus, Duisburg make German Cup semifinals

Thanks to two goals by youngster Thomas Mueller, defending champions Bayern humiliated Aachen 4-0 on Wednesday to reach the German Cup semifinals.

At the other matches, second division team Cottbus eliminated Hoffenheim and Duisburg defeated Kaiserslautern 2-0.

Bayern dominated the match against second division team Aachen, taking the lead at the 26th minute when striker Mario Gomez nodded home a cross from the left wing.

The Bavarians pressed, but due to their poor chance conversion they had to take a neat lead into the break before Mueller doubled it 30 minutes into second half.

Mueller had enough space inside goal area to nut meg Aachen goalkeeper to make it 2-0 on the scoreboards.

At the 80th minute Mueller sealed his brace by netting the 3-0 lead from inside penalty area after his shot was deflected unstoppable.

Aachen was battered and unable to fight back consequently after Bayern midfielder and long-term casualty Arjen Robben slotted home a low cross from the left wing to mark the final 4-0 score.

At the other quarterfinals encounters, Cottbus and Duisburg eliminated surprisingly Bundesliga teams Hoffenheim and Kaiserslautern.

Cottbus shocked Hoffenheim with a late winner at the 84th minute through Chinese international midfielder Shao Jiayi who slotted a cross inside penalty area.

Duisburg defender Branimir Bajic and midfielder Goran Sukalo wrapped the 2-0 victory over Kaiserslautern.

Already on Tuesday, Schalke defeated Nuremberg 3-2 in a thrilling match thanks to a stunning winner by youngster midfielder Julian Draxler.

On 30th January, the semifinal clashes will be drawn.
