Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho said Saturday that he would welcome any attempt from his club to re-sign striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The Spanish and German press this Saturday signaled the Dutchman, who only left Real Madrid to join Hamburg a year ago, as the man to cover from the injured Gonzalo Higuain, who will be out of action for the rest of the season after a back operation.

Mourinho has long stressed the need for his team to add more firepower in attack and in the press conference before his Madrid's game in Almeria on Sunday, he welcomed the move.

"It would be very good for us to have another striker, because we don't have many and we have a lot of games. I was very happy when I heard the club had started working to sign someone. The market is open until January 31 and if all goes well and we progress in the Copa del Rey, we will have to play five matches before then," highlighted Mourinho.

"A lot of names have been mentioned and all of the players could help us, but if finally Ruud is the player who comes, I will be happy," he added.

"I know him from when I worked in England, I know him as a player and as a person and I would be delighted if he came," said Mourinho.

However, the Real Madrid coach was not certain the deal would happen.

"At the moment he plays for Hamburg and we have to respect the situation, because he is not our player," he said.
