Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho confirmed this Saturday that Wednesday's hat-trick hero, Karim Benzema is by no means certain to start on side's trip to play bottom of the table Zaragoza on Sunday evening.

Benzema looked to have finally captured the form that persuaded Madrid to buy him from Lyon, when he scored a hat-trick in the Champions League against Auxerre on Wednesday.

However, speaking in his pre-game press conference, televised on Gol television, Mourinho said the goals had given him a problem.

"I still haven't decided if Benzema will start in Zaragoza. It is a serious problem. Because if I put him in the side at the start and things don't go well, then I don't have any alternatives on the bench. I know the best thing for Karim is to have continuity in the side, but it don't know if it is best for the team," said Mourinho.

The coach also announced that Alvaro Arbeloa will start in place of the injured Sergio Ramos, but he added that Arbeloa would have been in the side even if Ramos had not suffered an ankle injury in training.

"Arbeloa knew he was playing two days ago, because he deserves a chance for the way he has been playing. He is an example of a player who works well, is serious and who fights for his place," said Mourinho.

Mourinho also refused to discuss the possibility of Real Madrid making any signings when the transfer window opens this January.

"That is not down to me, it is for the people who have more responsibility in the club," he said, although he dropped a hint that he would like a striker to provide backup for the injured Gonzalo Higuain.

"I said it would be hard to last the season with Higuain and Benzema and with just Benzema it will be harder still," commented Mourinho.
