Atletico-MG defeats Avai 2-0 in Brazilian soccer championship

At home against Avai in the 30th round of the Brazilian soccer championship, the Atletico-MG soccer team won 2-0 on Sunday.

The victory was critical, helping the team to temporarily climb out of the "danger zone" of being lowered into the second division.

Atletico-MG's first goal came in the 52nd minute. Neto Berola rolled an excellent no-look pass to a cutting Rafael Cruz who then fired an angled shot past keeper Ze Carlos.

The team increased their lead in the 67th minute when Neto Berlos received a great ball from Diego Souza and dribbled around Ze Carlos, tapping the ball into the open net.

The win takes Atlteico-MG to sixteenth place with 31 points. In the 31st round of play, the team will travel to face Cruzeiro on October 24.

Avai dropped into the danger zone, placing in eighteenth with 30 points. In the next round of play, the team will travel to play at Goias on October 24.
