Vasco da Gama defeat Santos 3-1

At home against Santos, the Vasco da Gama soccer team won 3-1 on Tuesday in the 26th round of the Brazilian Championship.

Vasco da Gama scored their first goal in the 30th minute when Eder Luis centered the ball to Fagner who then one-timed the ball into the upper left corner of the Santos goal. Minutes later, the team added to their lead after goalie Rafael tackled Rafael Coelho at the mouth of the goal, leading to a yellow card and a penalty kick. Felipe took the kick, converting in the 37th minute.

Santos scored their only goal in the 55th minute. On the receiving end of a give-and-go, Danilo dribbled through the defense and slide the pass by a diving Vasco da Gama keeper Fernando Prass.

Vasco da Gama scored once more, guaranteeing their victory in the 5th minute of stoppage time. Streaking down the field, Eder Luiz weaved through the defense and nailed the ball past Rafael, sealing the win.

The result improves Vasco da Gama to twelfth place with 33 points. However, the definitive standing after the 26th round will depend on the continuation of the round on Wednesday. In the 27th round of play, the team will receive Goias on October 1.

Santos remains in sixth place with 38 points, but is will likely suffer a drop in the standings after Wednesday completion of the 26th round. In the next round of play, the team will host Palmeiras on October 2.
