Host to Ceara in the first round of the return leg of the Brazilian Championship, Fluminense won 3-1 on Wednesday.

The win maintains the team in first place while Ceara continues to slide down the leader board.

Fluminense scored all three of their goals in the first half. In the 6th minute, Mariano drove towards the bottom of the field and crossed a ball that spun into the back of the Goias goal.

After a three-game dry spell, Washington scored his team' s next two goals. In the 22nd, Dario Conca lofted a ball to the striker, leaving him face-to-face with the goalie Michel Alves. Washington drilled the ball into the right corner of the Goias net.

Then, in the 30th minute, Washington received another ball from Conca, one-timing it past Alves.

Ceara scored their only goal in the 89th minute of play. Dribbling down the field, Geraldo invaded the defense and slid the ball past Fluminense' s keeper Fernando Henrique.

The win improves Fluminense to 41 points, firm in first place. In the 21st round of play, the team will travel to face Atletico-GO on September 11.

Ceara remains with 25 points, standing in eleventh place. In the next round of play, the team will host Santos on September 12.
