Jose Mourinho wants improvement from his players after watching how his side got its BBVA Primera Liga campaign off to a disappointing start away to Mallorca.

Real Madrid created several chances, but was in no way superior to a Mallorca team that has seen its squad severely weakened by financial problems over the summer.

Following a scrappy 90 minutes football the 0-0 draw in the Iberostar stadium was fair reflection of the game and Mourinho was left ruing mixed chances and demanding something better next time around.

"I will remember the chances we created, but the negative thing is the result. I think that although we didn't play very well, we deserved to win, because we had five or six chances," said Mourinho on the Real Madrid website this Monday.

"We are still a long way away from our maximum potential and when you are like that the important thing is to defend well."

Although Mourinho insisted he needs time to work with his squad, the Real Madrid coach knows that the round of international matches taking place over the next two weeks will make it impossible to do that. A total of 15 players will be with their countries and will not return to the Spanish capital until September 9.

"We are not going to be able to do a lot of work in the next two weeks because the players will be away on international duty, but after they return we have to play Osasuna two or three days afterwards and then we face Ajax in the Champions League."

"We have not had the time to work together and we could lose points because of that," he complained.
