After scoring first in 17th round match of the Brazilian Championship, Atletico-MG allowed Palmeiras to score two consecutive goals, stealing the win 2-1 on Sunday.

Head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari celebrated a rare victory at the cost of Atletico-MG's decent in the ranks. Atletico-MG scored the game's first goal in the 52nd minute. Dribbling down the field, Serginho rolled the ball off to Neto Berola who then slid the ball past a diving Palmeiras keeper, Marcos.

Palmeiras answered by tying the match in the 67th minute. After Luan's shot on goal was deflected by keeper Fabio Costa, Marcos Assuncao quickly reacted, tapping in the rebound.

The team then took the lead in the 76th minute when Marcos Assuncao passed the ball to Kleber who continued angle the ball past Fabio Costa.

The win takes Palmeiras to 23 points, improving to eighth place.

In the next round of play, the team will travel to play Fluminense on September 1. Atletico-MG's defeat keeps them at 14 points.

The team will hope that the remainder of the 17th round will not drop the team into 19th and second-to-last place.

In the next round, the team will travel to play Goias on September 1. The team has struggled during the first half of the tournament and if they are unable to turn things around, will end up in the second division of next year's tournament.
