Despite scoring an early goal in front of their home crowd, the Gremio soccer team was unable to hold back Santos on Wednesday in the 16th round of the Brazilian Championship. Santos came from behind to score twice in the second half, winning 2-1.

Gremio scored a quick goal only the fifth minute into the match. Off a crossed ball from Fabio Santos, Borges dove onto the grass to head the ball into the back of the Santos net, causing the stadium to erupt in delight.

Gremio held onto the lead until they committed a penalty. In the 66th minute, Fabio Santos tackled Ze Eduardo in front of the goal, amounting to a penalty kick. Neymar took the shot in the 68th minute, launching the ball into the upper right corner of the Gremio goal.

Santos scored the game-winning goal in the 3rd minute of injury time. Off a fast break, Neymar fired a shot on goal that was deflected by Victor. On the rebound, Rodriguinho redirected the ball into the right side of the goal, giving his team an important come-from-behind win on the road.

The result leaves Gremio fans frustrated as their team remains among the worst four teams of this year's tournament with 15 points and 17th place. In the 17th round of play, head coach Renato Gaucho will look to lead his team to a much needed victory when they travel to play Atletico-PR on August 29.
