Real Sociedad coach Martin Lasarte on Wednesday reached an agreement with the club to extend his contract until the end of June 2012.

The new contract is reward for the excellent work carried out by the Uruguayan who led the Basque outfit to promotion to the BBVA Primera Liga last season.

That success marked the end of three years in the Spanish Second division (Liga Adelante) for one of the country's best known teams.

Real Sociedad President Jokin Aperribay explained that one of the reasons for extending the coach's contract was that he wanted to ensure stability.

"Stability brings results and we need results in order to remain in the Primera Liga," he said.

Meanwhile Lasarte was delighted to have his future cleared up so quickly.

"It's always important for your efforts to be recognized. It is a big honor and also a big responsibility. I feel like I have been given a huge injection of fuel for my motor, for the passion and the desire that I feel. It is impossible not to feel as if I am anything but another Real Sociedad fan," he added.

Real Sociedad's first match on their return to the Primera Liga is at home to Villarreal on Sunday.
