At home against Atletico-PR in the 9th round of the Brazilian Championship, Vasco da Gama won 3-1 on Saturday in a must-win match.

Jonathan scored Vasco da Gama's first goal in the 25th minute. The striker fired a long-distance shot that bounced in front of Atletico-PR 's goalkeeper Neto and swerved into the back of the net. Nunes then added to the lead in the 25th minute after converting a penalty kick.

Atletico-PR scored their only goal in stoppage time of the first half. Off a corner kick, Bruno Mineiro picked up on a loose ball, blasting it into the back of the Vasco da Gama net.

The home team returned in the second half to score once more. In the 62nd minute, Leo Gago fired a bullet from long distance. The ball sailed into the upper right corner of the Atletico-PR goal.

Atletico-PR's loss was their third consecutive, dropping the team to 19th place with 7 points. The much-needed win helps Vasco da Gama to gain some breathing room at the bottom of the standings, ranking 18th with 9 points. However, both teams still remain in the relegation zone.

Vasco da Gama will travel to play Gremio on July 21 in the 10th round, while Atletico-PR will look to snap their losing streak on July 22 when they travel to play Santos.
