Getafe assured a place in next season's Europa League with a 3-0 win away to Atletico Madrid Saturday night.

The win means that the side coached by former Real Madrid player Michel Gonzalez finished the season in sixth place ahead of Villarreal.

The day kicked off with Getafe needing to match Villarreal's result away to Zaragoza to confirm its place in Europe next season.

With the Atletico fans celebrating the club's Europa League title, won against Fulham in midweek and Atletico coach Quique Sanchez Flores resting key players ahead of this coming Wednesday's Copa del Rey final, Roberto Soldado put Getafe ahead after 14 minutes.

By then Villarreal was already training 1-0 in Zaragoza and that 1-0 would become 3-0 before Santi Cazorla pulled a goal back before halftime.

In the second half Villarreal pulled level in Zaragoza through Cazorla's second goal and a strike from Giuseppe Rossi, but Soldado's second goal in the Calderon and a third from Dani Parejo in the last five minutes gave Getafe a 3-0 win and assured a place in Europe.

Villarreal will still play in the Europa League next season if Sevilla can beat Atletico Madrid in next Wednesday's final of the Spanish Copa del Rey.
