Cruzeiro striker Kleber was named on Sunday the Libertadores Cup's most valuable player of the 9th week of play.

The entity responsible for awarding Kleber as known as "The Gladiator".

The South American Confederation of Soccer (Conmebol) highlighted his performance in the team's 3-0 victory against Velez Sarsfield on March 31.

During Cruzeiro's home match against Velez Sarsfield-ARG, Kleber scored two spectacular goals and single handedly led his team to another win in Group 7 of the Libertadores Cup.

Cruzeiro stands in the first place of their group with 10 points. Kleber now has 7 goals scored in this year's tournament.

Kleber began his career with Sao Paulo before being transferred to the Ukranian Dynamo of Kiev. In 2008, he returned to Brazil to play for Palmeiras. In 2009, Cruzeiro traded their young and talented Guilherme for Kleber. In his 49 games with Cruzeiro, Kleber has scored 36 goals.

His performance in the 9th week of play in the Libertadores Cup lifted him into third place of the team's all-time scorer in the competition with 11 goals scored. The team' s all-time leading scorer is Palhinha, with 20 goals, followed by Jairzinho with 12 goals.

In the 2010 season, Kleber has scored 12 goals in 11 games. Kleber and Cruzeiro's next match in the Libertadores Cup will take place in Santiago, Chile on April 15.

Kleber will look to improve his standing on the team's list of leading scorers in the competition. At his current rate of scoring goals, averaging above one goal per-game, it is only a matter of time.
