Juventus dismayed at home defeat to lowly Catania

Juventus plunged into third straight defeat after home 2-1 loss to Catania on Sunday at Serie A.

The surprise loss to bottom team Catania cost their chance to move into second place overtaking AC Milan of Serie A.

Mariano Izco scored the winner in the 87th minute to secure Catania's second victory of the season. The triumph help the club moved one place up but remained in the same 12 points as Siena in the relegation zone.

Hasan Salihamidzic had equalized for Juventus in the 66th. Jorge Martinez had given Catania the lead with a first-half penalty.

Juventus lost 3-1 to Bari in the previous round, and was eliminated from the Champions League after losing 4-1 to Bayern Munich in the last group match.

Nicolas Burdisso and Matteo Brighi scored goals to give AS Romaa 2-0 win at home to Parma, which help Roma move into the fourth Champions League place on 28 points.

Inter Milan tops the table with 36, AC Milan is second on 31 and Juventus is third with 30. Milan has a game in hand following the postponement of its match with Fiorentina on Saturday.

In other matches on Sunday, Livorno beat Sampdoria 3-1, Napoli beat Chievo Verona 2-0 and Palermo defeat Siena 1-0.

Two matches were called off because of the heavy snow.
