The logo and slogan of next European soccer championships, EURO 2012, were unveiled on Monday at a ceremony in Ukraine's capital.

UEFA President Michel Platini, together with Grigoriy Surkis, president of the Ukrainian Football Union (FFU) and Grzegorz Lato, president of the Polish Football Association (PZPN) presented the logo and slogan to the public, guests and media representatives on Mykhailivska Square in downtown Kiev.

"Just three days after the confirmation of the Ukrainian host cities by the UEFA Executive Committee, today marks another important milestone in the run-up to UEFA EURO 2012 and I think that the vivid colors of the logo are a perfect fit with the image that Poland and Ukraine want to give to the world," said Platini at the ceremony.

"The symbolism of a plant that grows is fully in line with the aspirations of the two host countries, and I am sure that we will be creating history together, with the staging of the UEFA European Football Championship in central and eastern Europe for the first time," added he.

"I am convinced that if we continue with the same spirit shown over the last few months, and we face the challenges awaiting us then the reward will be to the extent of our efforts and we will experience a beautiful football festival in June 2012," Platini noted.

Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko also attended the ceremony.

The logo is a composition on it featuring the stalk of a flower with three branches. A ball is depicted around the central flower, with the left flower being red and white (the colors of Poland's flag) and the right flower being yellow and blue (the colors of Ukraine's flag).

The slogan of the tournament, entitled "Creating History Together," was also presented at the ceremony.

Ukraine and Poland were chosen to co-host the European championship soccer tournament in 2012 on April 18. The Ukrainian part of the event will take place in Kiev, Lviv, Donetsk and Kharkiv.
